After a bit of a delay at Cunningham's Gap due to Road works (still fixing up the roads from the floods in January), we spent a couple of hours going around Warwick and grabbed lunch.
Then on to Stanthorpe, this year we couldn't get our normal accommodation, so had to try somewhere new, and thank god we did it is much better - Loggers Cottage just north of town.
Great kitchen, big fireplace, great bedrooms and hot water on demand - Awesome! And only at $75 each for the whole weekend!
We settled in to our new home then outside for a game of Frisbee with Nick and Dionne, when Will the dog came over to play also - clever little bugger!
Mark, Sue and Phil got there just on dusk, we grabbed dinner just in time for Rob (Sherlock Holmes) to turn up at the window and scare us to death!
Our Themed Event this year was "Cape" and everyone made a huge effort:
Captain Titty |
Methane Girl |
The Count |
Red Riding Hood |
Cape Byron Lighthouse |
Thunder Calves |
Margaritta Mike |
Irish Dancer |
We rearranged the furniture to get closer to the fire and caught up with everyone over a few drinks.
Saturday
Thankfully we put an extra log on the fire over night, as the ground temp was -9.2 and the air was -5.2. Very chilly!!!

As we normally stay on the Southside of Stanthorpe, it was great to have a different area to explore.
First off - Castle Glen for some liquor tasting, Boireann Winery for the w ed wine drinkers, then the Granite Belt Dairy Farmhouse Cheeseshop, then a wonderful, but cold sit down tasting at Summit Wines.
Wine tasting at the Summit |
By this time we where getting a bit hungry, so we went over the railway line to Suttons - Cidery for lunch, known for its apple pie! We all had a wonderful lunch and would recommend going there to anyone. Then on to the Granite Belt Maze, to get lost and a game of putt putt.
Home for a quick drink, rest and change of clothes for Dinner In all the years we have been going to Stanthorpe, we have never been for Christmas in July dinner. We booked a 5 course dinner at Bella Rosa at $60 a head.... It was wonderful!!!! Staff, Service and food was excellent!!! We where beyond full to bursting when we left. Santa even gave us a gift!

Sunday
A late start and then off to Castle Rock (minus Mark and Sue), for a short walk. Beautiful scenery, even if it was a bit cold, great for burning off of last nights dinner.

We had a quick stop at Heavenly chocolates for a hot Chocolate and Jam Works to stock up on jams and chutneys.
Back home for lunch then a bit of Frisbee and boule. Settled in for dinner and a sing a long.
Monday
Time to leave.... We all packed up after breakfast and took different routes back home.
We finally had time to stop in at the Darling Downs Zoo. Great little spot for the youngies, small family run affair.
Even though every thing was caged, we where still very close (1 metre), lovely tiger and lions.
A quick snack and Op Shop raid at Gatton on the way back, then home to our furry children.
