The Bunya Long Weekend May 22-25

After much concern about all the rain we had on Tuesday and Wednesday – we checked that all the roads where open – thankfully they all where.

So we headed up to Bunya Mountains (about 3hours north west of Brisbane), it was a nice day thankfully – we had hired a big cabin for the weekend.

Mark, Sue, Nick, Dionne and Phil joined us there on Friday afternoon. While the girls unpacked and made beds, the boys chopped up some wood for the weekend (like real men do when they are drinking West Coast Coolers!!) I got the fire going and opened the Baileys.

We had a booking for dinner at the local restaurant Cider Gum at 6pm – even though it was a little more expensive than what we normally pay – it was well worth it! Excellent service and food, we all had something different and we all enjoyed it (that is quite a feat!!) the desserts where to die for and we all went back over the weekend, to taste the rest of them at some point! I would put this food experience as one of my top 10 in my life!!!!

We all staggered back home, to have a port or two in front of the fire.

We all woke up to thick fog in the morning and very cool – it was very beautiful (except for the sound of the screaming kids next door!), I had a bit of a walk around with the camera, it was very cold and the wallabies where out and about eating the dewy grass – they are quite use to the visitors so you can within a couple of metres of them. As it is going into winter, the trees where all changing colours and shedding their leaves, which we never get to see in Brisbane. We got word from Kelly that she was flooded in at Dalby and couldn’t make it, which was a real shame. Rob arrived and made himself comfortable in the singles quarters (lots of bunk beds). I had a quick look around the shops and then settled in next to the fire with a good book and cuppa and some handmade chocolates (from the shop) whilst everyone went to the games room to play pool and table tennis (which I hear can get quite violent!!!) The boys then played Frisbee golf. Mark and Sue got us all in a sing a long for the afternoon.

Phil made soup for entrée, then we had slow cooked lamb and roast veg and Rob brought a special Cadbury Turkish delight and choc moose (wink). We all settled in for a night of Balderdash.

Sunday – no fog this morning, but very windy. Mark and Sue made breakfast for us all, before Nick and Dionne headed off. The rest of us had lunch at the Cider Gum, then said goodbye to Phil and Rob. The cabin was quite quiet with just the four of us left, so we watched Twilight, then Sue and I settled down with a wine, cheese and crackers in front of the fire, and we all caught up on the news from the outside world.

Monday – pack up and clean up morning and headed home via Toowoomba, found a great little country store for shirts and boots and stopped for lunch in the shopping centre.
