Wintersun 2010

The last ever at Coolangatta :(

Wednesday 9 June 2010
I had my last day at the Department of Communities, finished early and Mikey picked me up.
Went home packed up the car and drove to Coolangatta. We had a lovely one bedroom apartment this year on Boundary Road. After 13 trips up and down 3 flights of stairs we unpacked and got settled in.

We then went for a walk along Marine Pde and grabbed some dinner at Outback Jacks.

Thursday 10 June 2010
After having breakfast at the unit we had a leisurely stroll around Cooly shops and caught up with Ken, Sharyn and Sharon at Farleys for a lovely lunch.

Ken and I had organised to do Chrissy and Ray's Intermediate Swing workshop - which was great as I haven't been to a class for a really long time!

This year Chrissy and Ray had managed to get another Swing night as well as the Sunday night ball - which was awesome. Unfortunately Seagulls was renovating and where unable to us the venue this year, so we got stuck with the Civic Centre ( like dancing on ice!).

ws2010-10

We managed to get a good table at the back, where we could all catch up and have some room to mingle. This year we had a Brisbane Band Calibra Cats (very interesting costume on the lead singer!!!) and the Adelaide band Lucky Seven who where Awesome. A great night!

Friday 11 June 2010
Market Day!!!! This is the day that all retro girls dream about, stores form all over the country converge on one site, to sell their retro goods and services.

ws2010-16

We grabbed some lunch and then Mikey went for a walk around Point Danger and I went to Mark and Amanada O'Briens beginners Balboa workshop - we are going to need more practice with this style!!!

Mikey and I then had a night off and went to the movies to see Robin Hood (really good).

Saturday 12 June 2010
Saturday and Sunday of Wintersun are Mikey's favourite days, he has 5 music stages to choose from! Mikey and Ken become groupies for the weekend! Marine Pde was closed off for the day and the pre 1964 cars lined up along the road.

Today was especially busy as the weather was beautiful and sunny. We stayed at the swing stage for the "Swimwear through the ages fashion show" it was great with real women sized models!

Saturday night we had our traditional Katz Corner early dinner out - this year at the Indian - great food! Sharyn and I did our usual trick of drinking too much and having no motivation to go out afterwards! It was great to catch up with everyone!

Sunday 13 June 2010
Mikey and Ken went to watch bands again and I took my time getting ready then headed to Chrissy's tent at the markets to see the entries for the cake bake, I ended up being dragged in having the show off morning tea next to the cake bake, it ended up being very amusing. Chrissy got Candice (from Melbourne - international vintage blogger and model) to judge the contest. It was a very popular tent for the spectators, who ended up muscling their way in behind the bakers!!!! SECURITY!!! Trailer Trash Tattoo won in the end with her Trailer cake with was amazing!!!

I then headed over to Mikey and Ken over at the swing stage to watch "Darling Buds of May" from WA - one of our favourite bands. Great as always!

ws2010-52

We then headed back to the unit to rest up for the big night and watch the Lions get beaten once again :(

Off to the Civic Centre again for the Swing Ball, which was sold out we had a few interstate people not very happy as there where not enough seats to go around. Luckily though the floor was a lot better! Adam Hall, Benny and Fly by Nighters and Darling Buds of May kept us entertained for the night. It was a great night out!

Archery 29th June 2010 (NOT)

We had organised to do Archery today, but where assured that we didn’t need to book, but when we turned up it was full!

So we where already to spend our $50 and have a morning of fun, so after a quick look around next door at the shooting range, we where pointed in the direction of the Rifle Range.

We filled in a form and paid our money and where handed .22 rifles, 50 bullets and a target.
It was quite an experience as most of us had never handled a rifle.

The helpful range marshal, showed us what to do and we loaded the bullets (one by one – groan).
We all had a good time and it was a lovely morning out in the sun, next time though I think we will stick to pistols!

We where lucky enough to be invited to Rachael and Peters special day at Ebb Restaurant right on the beach at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast.

It was a beautiful sunny day. It was a lovely ceremony and very intimate.

5 year Wedding Anniversary Weekend (May day long weekend)

Saturday
This year we decided to go away on our own for our anniversary. To the South Burnett wine region.

We stayed at Yarakool camp grounds at Moffatdale. We hired a cabin for a weekend, that had all the basics.
We had a wonderful lunch at one of our favourite wineries Moffatdale and a quick wine tasting session.
We left with a few bottles and the orders our friends had put in.

Next stop - Clovely Estate for another round of wine tasting, then next door to Rodderick’s winery – not our cup of tea.

We had dinner on the balconey over looking the Dam watching the sunset.
Mikey organised a fire and we set up the blanket and the radio to listen to the football under the star’s.

Sunday
We headed out to Kingaroy, to Captain’s Paddock Winery for a tasting – good to see that Merlot the wine dog is still going strong. On the way back to the car Mickey noticed a pair of Tawny Frogmouths in a branch overhanging the car. A short drive to Cranes Wines for a another tasting.

SB-04

Then to Stuart Ridge for Fudge, Cheese (the best ever) and some more boutique wine tasting (cellar door for 3 wineries).

We went to the local pub for lunch, then back a different way via the Lavender gift shop.
Back to the cabin for a siesta, then dinner in front of the fire again, with the local radio station under the stars.

Debbie’s Wedding Weekend 23-25 April

Friday
I flew down to Adelaide for the weekend, for Debbie and Steve’s big day.
I was wonderful to catch up with Debbie and family.
I was so glad to be there for Debbie’s big day, and help out with all the little things that need to be done on the day.

Debbie looked amazing and was glowing; she exuded pride when her four children took it in turns walking her down to aisle.

It was a lovely romantic ceremony, with a lucky light shower in the middle of it. The two families joined together as one in a wonderful coloured sand ceremony, where they all poured their coloured sand into a glass heart shaped vessel, with 126 onlookers. They even had the celebrant chocked up!
Husband and Wife took the floor and did the Rumba, much to everyone’s surprise. They looked so happy and graceful.
debbie-5

The McClarenvale hotel did a wonderful job catering for such a large number of guest – awesome venue.
Great speeches from Steve the groom, Debbie and especially Andrew, who had everyone in stiches.
The band Grooveyard did a great mix of favourites for the night, with most people having a dance, even some that normally don’t (but I might have had something to do with that J)
It was a wonderful wedding, one I will remember forever.

Saturday
The newly wed’s had invited a few close friends around for brunch and a catch up. After that we all chilled out for the afternoon and Debbie made dinner.

Sunday
Debbie and Steve live right in the middle of the SA wine area, so we drove out to Kay Brothers winery, and had a great wine and port tasting. We then had a wonderful lunch at the local pub, then off to the airport to go home L.
It was great to catch up and I am glad I went down to SA to share one of my best friends important day. Love you Debbie
