Our Straddie Adventure

Well, we just got back from a weeks beach camping on Stradbroke Island (30 minutes drive east of our place to the coastline, then a 45 minute barge ride). We had perfect cloudless weather, with an average of 30 degree’s in the day and about 20 degree’s at night. Beautiful!


Mark and Sue came along for the trip as well, and we managed to get 3 camp sites all together, for our two big tents and a shaded lounge room area in the middle, no slumming it when we go camping. So after we all set up, we had some lovely fresh roasted chicken sandwiches for lunch, with a bottle of wine to wash it down with, followed by the cast wine stuff, so needless to say Sue and I were rather happy for the rest of the day.

We did something each day (to burn off some of the choccies and drinks).

• North gorge walk a couple of times, saw manta rays, turtles, fish, lots of dolphins and even a shark.


• Kept to the tradition of eating a different flavoured gelati/ice cream a day…yummy!
  
• Went up the hill for cocktails and sunset.


• Also barefoot lawn bowls at dusk.
  

Peter and Lesley came over for lunch at the wonderful café Seashells (they came on the wonderfully priced taxi service $16 return trip).

All in all we all had a great relaxing time, with Mark finishing off the trip with a sand toboggan down the sand dune NUTTER

Our long weekend at Bundy

Well, we made the long trip to Elliot Heads (near Bundaberg, about 4 hours away) on the weekend.

After a very soggy start to the weekend, we ended up visiting every Op shop in Bundy - about 6 in all, and got some bargains ($3 roller blades!). Caught up with my brother's family on Saturday arvo. We were all meant to go to Mon Repo to see the turtles that night, but it was booked out. So we all ended up at a great Indian/Thai Restaurant in Bundaberg and had a feast.

Sunday - Mikey, Sharyn and Russell went to Bundy markets early, and came back with a Border Collie puppy, named Charlie - what a cutie! Whilst Alex and I went for an hour's walk along the beach.


Sunday night off to Mon Repo, we were there about 30 minutes, when our group was called to have a look at a Loggerhead turtle laying her eggs (she only had 3 fins, so it took her a bit longer to dig the hole for her eggs, on ave 127 eggs). We then came back and watched some doco's on turtles etc. whilst the rest of our group did the egg relocation (she laid them too close to the water). We hadn't been back long when the other two groups where told that they had found some hatchlings coming up, so we joined them.
It was amazing, they where so cute, there ended up being about 94 turtle hatchlings come out of the sand, they where all put in a little plastic cage, so none of them wandered off in to the dunes the wrong way, or got eaten or stomped on.

We got to touch them a little, but then came the best bit!

The two turtle guides, put two lines in the sand from the cage to the water line, keeping a clear path from the group, everyone stood on both sides. As the hatchlings follow the light the guide asked fr a few helpers with torches to stand in the middle with their legs open shining the light between the legs of the person in front.

I Imanaged to be one of those helpers (Yippy), the guilds then let the hatchlings out of the cage, and they were off down the sand, so we had 94 little logger head turtles crawling along the sand between our legs, off for a 3 day nonstop swim. It was amazing!

Unfortunately the chance of any of those hatchlings making it to adulthood is very slim. They reckon only 1 in a 1000 make it!!! I don't want to be a turtle!

We also visited Coral Cove and found some great rock pools full of coral and tropical fish.

Maria's Rocky Horror Picture Show B'Day Party

Well, after much preparation (Mikey finally got his wish) we had my Rocky Horror Picture Show 32nd Birthday Party, on Saturday 3rd Feb. (Much to the amusement of our neighbours!!)

The weather was perfect, and everything went better than expected. Everyone made a huge effort (Thanks Everyone, I really appreciated it...oh and the presents!) and looked amazing!

Mikey and Mark were in fine form and we will use their other photo's (that wont be published on this blog, due to the elderly and small children viewing) for blackmail at a later date.

We had the speakers and projector set up outside for music and off course the movie, (the intention was to fast forward to the good bits and sing along) we ended up playing the whole movie from start to finish, with just about everyone acting out their part on the patio (Real Amateur Theatre!!)

I have no idea how Mikey stayed in those high heels all night let alone chase Rocky around in them. I don't think any of us have laughed so much in a long time!!!!

We ended off the night with group pictionary on the large white board, as the liquor had been steadily flowing, we all got quite loud and the little rain shower sent us in a 12 (much to the relief of our neighbours). We finally headed to bed about 2am, dreading the glitter and mess clean up in the morning!

Just wanna say, Thanks to everyone and what a great effort made by all,, it would not have been the same without you all. It is truly wonderful to have such a great group of friends that can drink, relax and have fun around each other and not have to worry about it!!!

p.s. I'm thinking about locking away my fishnets so Mikey can't get at them!!!! He looks better than me in them!!!!

Clam Bake

Lesley really likes the swing!!!!

We were invited to Vicki and Michael’s place for a Hawaiian / Tikki Party on 6th January.
Michael smoked some chicken legs and ribs for everyone (They were killer!), lots of food and drink had by all.
Yes, it was a bit cool (nuts weather), but that didn’t dampen the warm Hawaiian spirit.
We also got to christen the brand new Tiki Villa, which looked great – Michael you did a great job!

Also, sorry about the nuts Michael, I hope we picked up most of them!!!
